Will I be allowed into a host's home while they are away?

Most likely. Remember, this is not a hotel. The hosts have done everything possible to make you stay in their home. Only use areas you are allowed to use and, of course, clean up after yourself immediately.

My hosts will feed me?

Accepted Answer

No. The hosts usually invite the cyclists they host to eat, but that is not guaranteed. You are expected to plan ahead and bring your own food and condiments. You will have use of the kitchen, some space for a refrigerator (maybe located elsewhere), stove, appliances, and prep space.

2- To leave all the home appliances you use on and unattended.

Will I have a place to wash clothes?

Accepted Answer

Probably yes. If your host has a washeing machine and dryer, you can use them with their permission. Request in advance to use the washer and dryer to ensure you don't interfere with your host's schedule. Also, NEVER mix your clothes with your host's clothes, and after washing or drying, pick up and fold your clothes, so you never leave them in the washer or dryer.

Where will I shower?

Your host will have a shower for you. You may have a shower to yourself or you may have to share it with your host family. If you share a bathroom with your host family, always ask if they need it first. In any case, always clean the bathroom and shower area after each use.

Will the hosts provide transportation?

Accepted Answer

No. They are not obligated to provide you with transportation.

Question 7

What else do the hosts expect from me?

Accepted Answer

The hosts expect cyclists who are orderly, polite, responsible and respectful of their home and its furniture. If for any reason something doesn't work, is damaged, or breaks, report it immediately. It's always better for hosts to hear it from you than to discover it for themselves.

Question 8

Is it okay to leave a thank you gift for the hosts?

Of course! An example of gift could be: A photograph with family members on the day of the event, or anything related to cycling will always be good.

Finally, we highly recommend that you always leave your host's house in the same, or better, conditions than when you arrived. This will always speak well of you.
